Raise Another Glass

Well, hell, as long as nobody else has any new music, words, or commentary, I'll mark the birth of another grand American creative spirit, whose birthday falls on this day (no, not Lars--his birthday was last week).

You weren't perfect either, JMH, or you might still be among the living. But you sure could wail the heck out of a guitar!

So, fly on, fly on, into stratocaster stratospherics.

See? Even just small posts like this keep the pulse. Keep it up!

I just bought an record that has Jimi Hendrix (before he set out on his own) playing guitar in Little Richard's band. I can't tell if I can tell that it's Hendrix playing.

All apologies for typos, I can't edit my comment (I'll do my best to remember to preview in the future).

And speaking of guitars, if anyone that reads this likes hard, screaming metal, you should listen to The Dillinger Escape Plan's new album "Ire Works." It's metal as all get out, but jazzy too with all of the time signature changes (not for everybody, but endearing if you can stand the hard stuff).

Hi, Sam!

Thanks for the Dillinger tip (I'll call it in to J. Edgar Hoover immediately!)...

Yeah, some of that early Hendrix, where he's just playing in the band, it's hard to pick him out; he's just playing those rhythm chords. The song "Wait Until Tomorrow" on Axis Bold As Love has a little bit of that fat-back, chicken-scratchy, ka-chunka chunka sound that I associate with Hendrix's soul-rhythm days in the trenches.

I haven't tried this myself to see if it works (well maybe I will after I put this comment up), but--after you sign in, when you're still in the bloogger.com "Dashboard"/control panel thingy, there may be a way to edit comments. Or maybe it's just posts, as such...

Nah, that just lets you edit posts, not comments.

I tried to work through the FAQs and Help menu, but then I got bored...

Maybe I'll look further some other time.
